About

I grew up in our district and have raised my family here – the person I am, my life experiences, my family, all of us, are a reflection of the generations of hard-working people that make up the 10th Bristol District.

My focus as your State Rep

CONTROLLING COSTS FOR FAMILIES

Couple with their Baby

Families all over the district are feeling the impact of increasing everyday costs. Whether car, home or health insurance, fuel, electricity or heating expenses, child or elder care, we are all paying more for these goods and services. As your state representative, I will work to help address the increasing costs of living we are experiencing. Whether through action in the Legislature, working with the Healey/Driscoll Administration or engaging with local leaders on these topics, I will work to help control these costs for our communities.

Expanding access to affordable housing

Tenement houses in New Bedford

What doesn’t get said enough is that housing affordability impacts everyone - renters, homeowners, families, single parents, and especially seniors. In many ways, housing is a key indicator of a healthy community. We all want to stay on the South Coast, we can do more to responsibly develop affordable housing in order to ensure housing stock for growing families on the South Coast and livable and community-oriented housing stock for our seniors. The passage of the Affordable Homes Act was an important step to help address issues of access and affordability. Connecting our communities to the programs and funding available is a priority of mine as is working locally, with the Healey / Driscoll Administration and my colleagues in the Legislature to take additional steps to address this issue.

Protecting Reproductive Rights in the Commonwealth

Doctor Holding Patient's Hand

Since the Dobbs decision, ensuring that Massachusetts remains steadfast in supporting and expanding access to abortion care has become imperative. We may be safe thanks to the ROE Act passed in 2020, but having limits on abortions puts incredible stress on families that are already making the hardest decision of their lives. Having more time to make this decision is the humane and right thing to do. Some may say that we are safe in Massachusetts, but Dobbs has further impacted the number of medical providers who choose to be trained in abortion service and reproductive care. There remains work to be done to secure the next generation of abortion and reproductive health medical providers.

Making healthcare affordable & more accessible

Before Surgery

No one in the Commonwealth should be staring down a medical bill that has potential to ruin them financially, especially in the face of grave diagnoses and grief. Families deserve to seek the care they need without fearing about how they will pay for it. If it wasn’t already hard enough for South Coast families, the failure of a for-profit hospital system has impacted availability of quality healthcare in our region. The decision of a few greedy executives has resulted in families spending more time and money finding the care they need. I will work to make healthcare access and affordability a priority and help prevent a failure like Steward from happening again.

Environment &
climate change

Our district is fortunate to include immense natural resources and a coastal landscape vital to our local economy and our local heritage. It is important that we preserve and protect our environment from both overdevelopment and the impacts of climate change. To do so requires us to work together at the local, regional, state and federal level and to do our part to meet the Commonwealth’s clean energy and climate plan targets by 2030 and 2050. In Massachusetts we have unlimited creativity, innovative energy and environmental laws and programs that provide us with the tools to combat climate change, tackle water and wastewater issues and protect open spaces. These laws and programs empower cities and towns to do their part locally. As your representative, I will work to connect those programs and initiatives with our communities, and will advocate for local projects that address these issues. I will also work with my colleagues in the Legislature and the Healey/Driscoll Administration on legislation, programs and funding that support our district and advance Massachusetts as a leader on energy and the environment.

As State Rep, I am committed to championing the local industries that form the backbone of the community, including fishing, cranberry growing, and tourism. Recognizing the challenges faced by these sectors, I will advocate for policies that promote sustainable growth and innovation.
